Nvidia's and Palantir's biggest cheerleaders are sending all the wrong signals to investors.

Nvidia stock was reacting after Advanced Micro Devices earnings, including its comments on China sales.

The investment comes from backers including the Qatar Investment Authority as demand for chips beyond Nvidia soars and as Qatar aims to build out its AI infrastructure.

NVIDIA (NASDAQ:NVDA) CEO Jensen Huang used a late-evening conversation with a partner to outline how he believes artificial intelligence is reshaping the computing industry and why enterprises should move quickly to adopt it, even if near-term return on investment is difficult to quantify. Advanced Micro Devices shares fell ‌over 6% in ‌early Frankfurt trading on Wednesday after the company ‌forecast a slight decline in ‍quarterly revenue, raising concerns about whether it can ‌effectively challenge Nvidia in the booming AI market. The stock ended Tuesday's regular session down 1.7%. The shares have ‍risen 13.1% so far this year (Reporting by Danilo Masoni; ‌Editing by Amanda ‌Cooper)

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang dismissed fears that artificial intelligence will replace software and related tools, calling the idea "illogical", after a significant selloff in global software stocks on ‌Tuesday. The selloff, partly sparked by AI developer Anthropic's updated chatbot release last week that ‌heightened fears of AI-driven disruption in the data and professional services industry, broadened on Wednesday, hitting software stocks in India, Japan and China. Speaking at an artificial intelligence conference in San Francisco hosted by Cisco Systems Huang said worries that AI ‌will make software companies less relevant are misguided and AI will continue to rely on existing software rather ‍than rebuild basic tools from scratch.

A significant selloff among U.S. and European data analytics, professional services and software companies deepened on Tuesday, with some investors pointing to a recently updated artificial intelligence chatbot by Anthropic as the main culprit. AI developer Anthropic launched plug-ins for its Claude Cowork agent on Friday that would automate tasks across legal, sales, marketing and ‌data analysis. Toronto-based Thomson Reuters, which owns the Westlaw legal database, slumped by nearly 18%.

Asia shares traded mostly higher on Wednesday despite a retreat on Wall Street on selling of technology stocks, while gold and silver continued to regain ground after a recent sell-off. U.S. futures edged higher and oil prices advanced. The future for the S&P 500 edged up 0.2%, while that for the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.3%.

The Nasdaq fell below its 50-day line while consumer staples, regional banks, precious metals and industrials showed strength. AMD, Lumentum were earnings movers late.

Nvidia's H200 AI chip sales to China remain in limbo nearly two months after U.S. President Donald Trump approved exports, pending a U.S. national ‌security review, the Financial Times reported on Tuesday, citing people familiar with the ‌discussions. Chinese customers are, meanwhile, not placing H200 chip orders with Nvidia until it becomes clear whether they will be able to secure the licences or what conditions will be attached, the report said. Nvidia and the U.S. State Department did not immediately respond to a Reuters ‍request for comment outside regular business hours.
